COOL FM’s famous AUX Sessions has been graced by the likes of Tems, Fireboy DML, Kranium since it launched in 2019. Though the pandemic-imposed lockdown forced the show to take a break last year, AUX has returned with renewed vigor to serve as a springboard and launch the next generation of African artists into the mainstream.
The fiery SGaWD is the latest to join the elite ranks of the musical series. She left her job as a lawyer in Miami to start her music career in Nigeria and that exposure to different cultures allows her to create uniquely versatile anthems that earned her a spot to be AUX’s first feature of 2021. In addition to headlining such an esteemed platform, she also collaborated with AUX on a micro album, WhorePhobia which contains 3 new tracks, “WhorePhobia”, “That’s My Mo” and “AUX Radio Interlude”.
SGaWD’s convincing rap cadence allowed her to deliver the song’s spicy lyrics in a way that’s both charming and striking. She also treated her fans, Sirens, to an unabashed performance of the project’s lead single, “WhorePhobia”, conveying a feisty attitude to match the song’s angsty message in the AUX Sessions video.
Lead curator at AUX Africa, Kolapo Oladapo shared his thoughts on AUX’s return with the SGaWD collaboration.
“This is the first of many projects with up and comers we plan to accelerate going forward and we couldn’t be more honored to have SGaWD kick that off”
AUX Africa’s primary aim is to get new artists in the door and introduce them to larger audiences. AUX Radio was created to run on CoolFM every Saturday and Sunday to facilitate that as the radio show gives insight on artists working their way into the mainstream. SGaWD was the first guest to feature on AUX Radio, hosted by Ajay and The Radio Chef. It was special because it provided a rare look into her background, creative process, and the influences that have shaped her.
You can watch SGaWD’s AUX Sessions on YouTube and stream the Phobia project on Apple Music and other streaming platforms.
Haven garnered so much hype from her previous releases and her AUX Sessions, SGaWD is now ready to share her debut single for 2021, “Pop Shit”. She has been teasing the single for a few weeks now and fans’ anticipation couldn’t be higher.
